New York, NY (Sports Network) - Tina Charles of the Connecticut Sun and
Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks were named the WNBA's Eastern
and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the period
ending Sept. 23.
Charles led the Sun to a 2-0 record and posted 10.5 rebounds per game, helping
her clinch her third consecutive WNBA season rebounding title. She also poured
in 17 points and blocked 1.5 shots per game for the week.
Parker averaged 24 points, six assists and three blocked shots over two games,
leading all three categories in the Western Conference for the week. She
helped extend the Sparks' record to 24-10 by posting a pair of double-doubles
in wins against Phoenix and Minnesota.
Other players considered for the award were Angel McCoughtry of the
Atlanta Dream and Katie Smith of the Seattle Storm.
