Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Panthers re-signed cornerback
Captain Munnerlyn on Thursday.
Munnerlyn, a four-year veteran, had become a free agent on March 12, but is
coming back with the team that selected him in the seventh round of the 2009
draft.
"I'm happy. I got a chance to stay with this great organization, this great
coaching staff," said Munnerlyn. "I didn't want to go somewhere and have to
start over. Sometimes you have to, but I feel like I have a great situation
here. Hopefully we can make a playoff run."
Last season he had two interceptions, both of which were returned for
touchdowns, while totaling 61 tackles and nine passes defensed in 16 games, 11
of which were starts.
In 61 games over his career, Munnerlyn has recorded 208 tackles and five
interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, along with 27 passes defensed.
Also on Thursday, the Panthers signed former Oakland safety Mike Mitchell, who
had spent his first four NFL seasons with the Raiders.
Mitchell has appeared in 61 games with nine starts, compiling 139 tackles and
two interceptions along with 10 passes defensed.
