New York, NY (Sports Network) - Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber
has been fined $2,500 for delivering a blow to the head of Detroit Red
Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg during Game 1 of their Western Conference
quarterfinal series on Wednesday.
The incident occurred as time expired in the third period and Nashville's
captain was assessed a minor penalty for roughing.
"We felt this was a reckless and reactionary play on which Weber threw a
glancing punch and then shoved Zetterberg's head into the glass," NHL senior
vice president of player safety and hockey operations Brendan Shanahan said.
"We reached out to Detroit and were informed that Zetterberg did not suffer an
apparent injury and should be in the lineup for Game 2."
The fine money will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
