Chester, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Union exercised their option
to complete the transfer for midfielder Roger Torres from America de Cali on
Tuesday.
Torres, 20, joined Philadelphia on loan from the Colombian side for the 2010
and 2011 seasons. In 46 appearances, Torres had three goals and eight assists.
"I'm thrilled to remain in Philadelphia, where I've become comfortable with my
teammates and the coaching staff," Torres said.
"I love to play in front of our fans at PPL Park and will continue working
hard so I can help the team reach its goals."
The Union traded forward Sebastien Le Toux to Vancouver Whitecaps FC earlier
Tuesday, meaning Torres will be counted on even more in 2012. Le Toux combined
for 25 goals and 20 assists in his first two seasons with the Union.
"We're very happy to keep Roger in Philadelphia and see the benefits of the
investment we've made in him," said Union coach Peter Nowak. "Roger has shown
the ability to be a valuable playmaker and we look forward to helping him
continue his development."
Per MLS and club policy, terms of the transfer will not be disclosed.
