Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA acquired defender Danny Califf from the Philadelphia Union on Thursday for midfielder Michael Lahoud, following an earlier trade that sent defender Heath Pearce to Red Bull New York for forward Juan Agudelo.

Chivas also sent allocation money to Philadelphia, as it acted quickly to fill the void left by the departure of Pearce to New York. Califf and Agudelo will both be available to face the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night.

"Obviously, losing Heath, our thoughts were to acquire a center back and we had the ability to get Danny Califf who's a player who has played in a lot of places, he has some good experiences, he's a very experienced and hard-nosed defender and again, as we said, to get an asset you have to give up an asset and the cost for this one was Michael," said Chivas USA coach Robin Fraser.

The 32-year-old Califf has played 23 matches for the United States, and is a veteran of Danish Superliga in addition to extended experience in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles, the San Jose Earthquakes and Philadelphia.

The 25-year-old Lahoud played 23 games in 2011 for Chivas USA, but appeared in just two matches so far this season.

"In Michael Lahoud we are getting another young versatile player who we believe will have an opportunity to establish himself as a Union player while helping us achieve our goals throughout the season," Union coach Peter Nowak said.

Per league and team policy, financial details of the trade were not revealed.
