Portland, OR (Sports Network) - The Portland Timbers announced late Thursday
that the club has signed striker Frederic Piquionne to a one-year contract.
Piquionne joins the Timbers after playing the last three seasons in England
with Portsmouth and West Ham. The 34-year-old, who enjoyed a trial period with
Portland during the club's preseason efforts, also has enjoyed stints with
Rennes, St. Etienne, AS Monaco and Lyon.
"Frederic made a strong impression during his trial and gives us another
quality piece in the striker position," said Timbers head coach Caleb Porter.
"He is a proven professional at a high level and helps our depth with Bright
Dike out. We are very pleased about this addition to our club."
Piquionne will occupy an international slot on the Timbers roster. Per league
and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
