Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - United States men's national team coach Jurgen
Klinsmann named his 23-man roster for the team's upcoming World Cup qualifiers
with Costa Rica and Mexico on Monday, with the most notable omission being
captain Carlos Bocanegra.
The 33-year-old has served as captain of the team since 2007, but he recently
lost his starting job with Spanish second division side Racing.
Bocanegra was on the roster for the last qualifier against Honduras, a 2-1
defeat, although he didn't play in the match.
Veteran midfielder DaMarcus Beasley was recalled by Klinsmann, while the
following eight players were unavailable to the coach through injury or
illness: Edgar Castillo (facial fractures), Timmy Chandler (hamstring), Steve
Cherundolo (knee), Tim Howard (back), Fabian Johnson (hip), Jonathan Spector
(ankle), Jose Torres (hamstring) and Danny Williams (illness).
The U.S. will host Costa Rica on Friday, March 22 before traveling to Mexico
on March 26 to face El Tri at the Azteca Stadium, where the Americans have yet
to win a World Cup qualifier.

DEFENDERS: Tony Beltran, Matt Besler, Geoff Cameron, Omar Gonzalez, Clarence
