Casablanca, Morocco (Sports Network) - Jeremy Chardy of France knocked off
top-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany in the second round of the Grand Prix
Hassan II tennis event.
Chardy needed a mere 58 minutes to post a 6-3, 6-1 victory in a match delayed
at the start by rain. Next up for Chardy will be seventh-seeded Spaniard
Albert Ramos, who advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Romania's Victor
Hanescu.
Rain was a factor for most of Thursday, as a pair of second-round matches were
delayed.
Pablo Andujar of Spain, the third seed and defending champion, was set to meet
Italy's Potito Starace in a rematch of last year's final, while a pair of
qualifiers -- Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol of Spain and Algeria's Lamine Ouahab --
were scheduled to square off in the final match of the day.
The winner of this $522,000 tournament will collect $71,900.
