former top-10 player Nadia Petrova highlighted Monday's first-round winners
at the $220,000 Estoril Open tennis event.
Vinci held off Russian wild card Nina Bratchikova 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, while the
seventh-seeded Russian Petrova pasted Portuguese wild card Barbara Luz 6-0,
6-1 in 65 minutes at National Stadium.
American Vania King defeated Swede Johanna Larsson 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-0, while
Spanish favorite Carla Suarez Navarro handled Belarusian Olga Govortsova 6-4,
6-4 and Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa bested Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-4.
Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues, seeded third this week, topped German
Kristina Barrois in last year's Estoril finale.
The winner of this clay-court French Open tune-up will take home $37,000.
