Guangzhou, China (Sports Network) - Fresh off her title last week in
Uzbekistan, Serb Bojana Jovanovski stayed hot Tuesday by upsetting top seed
Sorana Cirstea in first-round action at the Guangzhou Open tennis event.
The 21-year-old Jovanovski leveled the Romanian Cirstea 6-2, 6-1 on the
hardcourts at Guangzhou International Tennis Center.

A trio of seeds avoided upsets, as No. 2 Alize Cornet of France drubbed
Belarus' Olga Govortsova 6-3, 6-1, No. 3 Laura Robson of Great Britain handled
Serbian qualifier Jovana Jaksic 6-2, 6-4, and No. 4 Chinese favorite Peng
Shuai beat Israeli wild card Shahar Peer 6-3, 6-4. Robson was last year's
Guangzhou runner-up to Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh. Peer titled here in
2009. Peng was the Guangzhou runner-up in 2008.
Two more upsets came when Serb Vesna Dolonc drove out fifth-seeded Pole
Urszula Radwanska 7-5, 6-2 and Hungarian Timea Babos upended seventh-seeded
American Varvara Lepchenko 7-6 (10-8), 7-5.
Also on Day 2, Austrian Yvonne Meusburger mauled Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko 6-3,
6-4, Chinese wild card Zheng Saisai overcame Thai qualifier Luksika Kumkhum
6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 7-5, and Chinese Zheng Jie bested Kazakhstan's Yaroslava
Shvedova 6-1, 6-4.
The winner of this $500,000 tournament will collect $112,080.
