On September 5, 2008, ABC, CBS, and NBC donated one hour of
simultaneous, commercial-free primetime for SU2C's first nationally televised fundraising event.

More than 100 stars stood up on September 5 including: Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate, Halle Berry, Jack Black, Dana Delany, Neil Patrick Harris, Jimmy Fallon, The Simpsons, Meryl Streep, Patrick Swayze, James Taylor, Carrie Underwood, Forest Whitaker and many others.

More than 12 million viewers watched the show and more than $100 million was pledged to fund translational cancer research.

Two years after the historic 2008 fundraising telecast, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC donated an hour of primetime for the second Stand Up To Cancer 'roadblock' fundraising event on September 10, 2010. Watched by more than 18 million viewers, the show featured musical performances by Lady Antebellum, Green Day, Neil Diamond, Martina McBride, Dave Stewart, Natasha Bedingfield, and Stevie Wonder, among many others.

The large cast who participated in the 2010 show included George Clooney, Michael Douglas, Sally Field, Rob Lowe, Tobey Maguire, Gwyneth Paltrow, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Reese Witherspoon and Renée Zellweger. The 2010 Stand Up To Cancer show generated over $80 million in pledges to support research.
