Triad Sports & Recreation

When you think of sports in the Triad, college basketball is at the top of mind. With five Division one schools, the ACC headquarters, and the Greensboro Coliseum it is easy to see why basketball is king.

The ACC Men's Tournament will tip-off in Greensboro in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015. The ACC Women's Tournament has found a home in the Gate City, with an annual commitment through at least 2015.

The hardwood is not the only game in town when it comes to sports. Winston-Salem played host to the Davis Cup Tennis semi-finals in 2007 and 2008. Andy Roddick led the way as eight of the world's top ten players faced off at the Joel Coliseum.

Greensboro has hosted a PGA Tour stop since 1938. Some of the greatest golfers in the world have made their mark here, including Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, and Raymond Floyd. 2008 will mark the return of the Wyndham Championship to Sedgefield Country club after 31 years at Forest Oaks.

Minor League baseball is also a big draw in the Triad. The Greensboro Grasshoppers have led the South Atlantic League in attendance for the last 3 years. The Hoppers home, NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro will host the South Atlantic League All-Star Game in 2008. Winston-Salem is building a brand new downtown stadium for the Warthogs. It will open in 2009.
