Greensboro, NC -- Wyndham Worldwide, the company that sponsors the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, announced a five-year, $1 million donation to The First Tee on Tuesday afternoon.
Of that, $600,000 will go to the national The First Tee organization. The other $400,000 will benefit The First Tee of the Triad. The non-profit program aims to help kids aged 7-to-18 become better people by teaching them nine core values through the game of golf.
A local 15-year-old golfer named Seth Lomison played in Monday's The Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro-Am. He started taking part in The First Tee of the Triad three years ago, never having touched a golf club before. Now, he has a five handicap and says the lessons he learned through The First Tee have turned him from a bully into "a good person."
"I was putting other people down," Seth said. "I was just a kind of downer on life. But after First Tee, I started trying to find the better in everything."
